President Duterte is about to sign an Executive Order for the country's quest for nuclear energy. The news has been circulating for a while. So far, no significant objections or violent reactions were heard from leftist group nor from known destabilizers of Duterte Administration. Thier silence is deafening!

For any developing country, getting nuclear power is the first step towards economic prosperity. Almost all developed and industrialized countries have nuclear power plants. The US and France lead in numbers. About 450 nuclear power plants are operationg around the world in 30 countries.

For now, Phillipines relies on coal, fossil fuel, geothermal, wind and solar source. A healthy mix of power source is being maintained. But solar and wind source are favored being clean and renewable.

But if Philippines is serious in uplifting the quality of life in the country, having nuclear power plants will help stabilize power source and lower its generation cost. It can be situated anywhere in the Philippines without a problem. Our present energy grid has already connected Luzon and Visayas and hopefully Mindanao very soon. Or was it already finished?

Many are expected to argue that Nuclear Plants are dangerous. That its not safe to the environment. That its expensive to build. At the end of the day, we need it if we are to move forward as a nation. US, Europe, China, India, Korea and Japan has nuclear power plants. Why not us?

For the record, nuclear reactors are clean source of energy. It has no emmissions. The number of accidents is very low in the last few decades and safety measures are more sopnisticated these days. According to estimates, a 1,100 MW plant will cost an average of 7.5 Billion US Dollars to build. It can operate as long as 50 years to 80 years. If we build even 5,500 MW reactors, this will take up about 1/3 of our current power requirements. A big solid leap to progress! We can slowly retire those old costly power plants that sucked dry the people with high electric bills.

Disposing nuclear waste will be a challenge. But we can duplicate the safest practice done by the leading countries. So no problem.
Imagine paying cheap and reliable electric bills. Riding cheap light rail transits from home to work. Seeing the whole country getting productive and industrilized. Or just imagine living in a first world country where nuclear energy are used.

Lets hope President Duterte will sign the E.O. for nuclear energy. And let hopes he fast track the study and sign a contract to build the nuclear reactor before 2022. I don't care who will build it. Russians, Koreans, Chinese or Americans or anybody. Just build it!

And oh, should the goverment build it and operate it, those oligarchs who are heavily invested in conventional powerplants will face a formidable competition. Filipinos win big time.
For now, lets endure paying the expensive electricity bills. We've been betrayed by the yellow cult who sold our future to the greedy oligarchs.
