Mahigit P95.3 bilyong peso na utang ng ilang Power firms at electric cooperatives natuklasan sa isinagawang joint committee sa House of Representatives.

Ayon pa kay Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) lawyer Irene Joy Besido-Garci ang bilyong pesong halaga ay ipapasa sa mga Pilipino.

“Ultimately, your honors, it is the national government that will have the burden of paying this amount come June 2026 when PSALM’s life will expire,” saad ni Besido-Garci.

Ang PSALMN ay ang kumukolekta ng mga utang ng mga power firms. Ito ay matapos ibinenta ng National Power Corporation ang mga power assets sa mga private companies. Ngunit hindi umano nila magawa ang kanilang trabaho dahil kinukwestiyon ng ilang power firms ang proseso.

Agad naman inimbitahan ni Rep. Michael Defensor at Jonathan Sy-Alvarado ang mga power firms sa susunod na pagdinig sa kongreso.

Sinabi rin ni Defensor na tiyak ay magagalit si Pangulong Duterte dahil sa natuklasang ito, katulad sa nangyari sa dalawang water c0ncessionaires.

“Most of them have not paid yet. They will be called for the next hearing. The government could earn a lot from these from the collection,”

“These overdue accounts should be paid by the power firms. In the end, the public would carry the burden of paying these, not the government.”

“I’m asking if the President knows this because he will definitely get angry once he learns about this. If he gets mad at the P11 billion arrears of the two water concessionaires, how much more to this? I’m almost sure he’ll go ballistic over this.”

Sinabi ni Besido-Garcia na hindi niya alam kung nakarating na ang impormasyong ito kay Pangulong Duterte, ngunit alam na raw ito ng Department of Finance.
