Ayon kay Senador Bong Go, nagdesisyon si Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte na mag-develop ng liver transplantations sa Pilipinas matapos nilang tulungan ang ilang batang may sakit na biliary atresia.

Ilang batang may naturang sakit ang naipadala na ng Duterte Administration sa India para sumailalim sa transplant operation. “There are people coming to me asking for donations and raising funds. We have limits in the government, a lot of things are banned here, there, especially when you need to send them abroad to undergo operation. It’s hard to raise funds that’s why I said, let’s not burden patients. Let’s do whatever we can to improve our services… Apart from having a huge trust on our doctors, the most important thing here is, we don’t let families get left behind… If operations are done here, we could seek help easily. We have Pagcor (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation), PCSO, PhilHealth, DOH and even the Office of the President can help,” sabi ni Senador Go.

Sa kasundduan na pinirmahan ng Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) at ng gobyerno (Department of Health), ang mga pampublikong ospital ang tutukoy ng mga kuwalipikadong pasyente at ang ang pribadong ospital naman ang magsasagawa pediatric liver transplantations. Ang gastos ay sasaluhin ng DOH sa pamamagitan ng PCMC. Ang long-term solutin ng gobyerno upang matulungan ng husto ang mga biliary atresia patients ay ang pagbiling mga kinakailangan kagamitan para sa National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI). Balak din ipadala sa bansang Taiwan ang mga espesiyalista upang makapag-training. “Hopefully these agreements, consortiums expand further, not just limited in liver transplants or biliary atresia patients but others as well,” ani Senador Go.
